Raise your hand if you’ve heard of Affiliate Marketing!

No, Maybe?!?

As we are on the topic of finding some income streams, and you’ve done a little research I bet it’s come up, so let’s dig in!

Realistically it should start with some research. Now I’ve done some reviewing of this area…and way back (I won’t age myself, but it’s been a bit 😉 ) affiliate marketing was part of my job description, so I have some background knowledge. But if you’re following along to try and do this yourself, don’t worry, I got you.

If we’re getting technical:

Affiliate marketing: Affiliate marketing is a type of performance-based marketing in which a business rewards one or more affiliates for each visitor or customer brought by the affiliate’s own marketing efforts.

Affiliate marketing is also trendy in the online space right now, espeically as a side hustle. So let’s dig in and see if we can start making some money using this strategy.

The biggest player in the affiliate marketing space is Amazon. Essentially you apply for their Amazon Associates program and once approved you can take a link to a product sold on amazon and share it, either on your website or socials and if someone who clicks on your link ends up purchasing the prodcut, Amazon gives you a commission.

Amazon is not the only big business that does this, tons of corporations do it, think Target, Hobby Lobby, etc; but also tons of small busienss will use this strategly to get advocates of their brands to share their products with their audience.

Affiliate programs have been around as long as e-commerce has, and with the huge influx in online shopping and the social media element added, it’s no wonder we have seen an increase in popularity in affilate programs.

So how do you start?

Choose a company or store that you already frequent and see if they have a program already and what the criteria is, if it’s something you can handle, join what do you have to lose!

You can do a Google search for Affiliate programs plus a niche you want to focus on, think Health products Affiliate Program. And see if anything hits the mark.

I’ll make another post specifically about the Amazon program as I think this will be a popular choice but I know getting into the program isn’t as easy as just putting in a application. So I’ll dig in and put together a quick guide.
